iPad a lot of flash, but no FLASH!?

No Flash!

Seriously? No flash content on this new device. I doubt it is a technology problem even thought that is what Apple claims. Why can’t these vendors kiss an make up? What is so difficult about displaying this content?

Many people don’t realize that a lot of video content is in Flash format. Developers have a lot of control when it comes to video and using the Flash platform. If Apple really wants users to buy into this device they not only need to make it do most of the tasks an iPhone can do, but they need to take it one step further. Judging from the hype they want this device to bridge the gap between laptops and iPhones. The fact that a lot of sites have Flash content (not to mention advertising) makes it an undesirable device to bridge that gap – unless you can’t see your iPhone without glasses.

What do you think? Will you miss Flash? If you have an iPhone, have you accepted the fact some content isn’t available?

    Hey Chris-

Initially, I was disappointed Flash wouldn’t work on the iPad (just as I was when I realized it wouldn’t worked on the iPhone too). But then I realized I had stopped going to those sites that were dependent on Flash. “What is so difficult about displaying this content?” Well… a couple of things.

[1] It’s easier for Apple to demand that their developers use the same standardized rules for BOTH the iPhone and iPad.
[2] If Apple supported Flash, then users would go to sites like Hulu more often instead of paying for the same content on iTunes.

See this article in the NY TImes over the weekend: http://s.nyt.com/u/tcx
It’s possible we might be seeing the end of Flash anyway. HTML5 is just beginning.
