Here Comes Everybody – Comment 1

Everyone!

Thank you!  I am thrilled that the book of required reading for this class happens to be recent and relevant.  After all, this program (APOC), is designed to get you ready for now–and not a history lesson which so many classes are.

I said it before and I will say it again, reading is not my favorite thing to do. However, I find myself reading this book and relating to so many of the points the author has presented.  The idea of management, cost of management, higher-archaical struggles, organization and the real cost of these new trends.

“Loosely coordinated groups can now achieve things that were previously out of reach for any other organizational structure…”

The author is referring to the social media tools that are available now for organizing people of similar interests. No matter whether it is a humanitarian cause or just a party.  There are platforms out there now that can easily and simply connect people, their lives and their interests all under self management and little or no cost.  The amazing thing is, as illustrated by the Flickr/mermaid parade story, people don’t even have to be encouraged or enticed to participate.  It is natural.  They seek out groups.  It is something internal.

People inherently want to share.  I think this is a fundamental and an important point that is made in the book.  I believe that this is why Facebook, Flickr and other sharing platforms are so popular.  As the book states, people want to communication and socialize. It is something we are all born with.  Sharing on any level is natural.

The story at the beginning of the book of Evan and the fight for Ivanna’s phone was both illustrative and indicative of the power that one person can have with the right initiative, followers and tools.  It also reminds us how things have changed over a very short amount of time.

To be continued…
